ON TOUR: Louisville, Kentucky

Played at O’Malley’s Corner in Louisville during Derby Week. A mechanical bull pretty much killed my visibility and access for the night but it was pretty funny to watch anyway. O’Malley’s is also called The Corner and Coyotes — sorta like a honkytonk mall. I took some short video of the bull and an amazing mirror-covered saddle that hung in place of a disco ball! The town was pretty charming with fancy hats on display everywhere for the Derby, and a cluster of theaters, a science center, and hotels around the old courthouse, and an open-air mall with live concerts called Fourth Street Live. We wondered if it was as cool during the other 51 weeks. Stayed at the Hyatt (ooh, atrium) which was like a block away from the venue and across the street from the civic center. Old architecture mixed with new. People were very friendly in that Southern way, and near the waterfront which featured paddle steamers there were a lot of slavery displays, including a plaque with the story of two escaped slaves and a statue of an uncredited slave on the Lewis & Clark expedition.
